This is an entry for Capoeira Ache Brazil Malaysia performance for UNICEF at Plaza Sri Hartamas. The group was led by Mr Aizad, from Kuantan Pahang. There were a total of 10 capoeiristas from Kuantan and 1 from Alor Setar gathered to participate in this event. I didn’t participate for the show because I was there to take pictures but I still enjoyed the music, sung the song and shared the energy.
Aizad, also known as Ligeirinho, graduated from Capoeira Ache Brazil in Canada. He received an instructor cordao from Mestre Eclilson de Jesus. Aizad started his early capoeira training a decade ago. Currently, he teaches capoeira in Kuantan.
During those day, Capoeira Instructors were really hard to find in Malaysia. There were a few who were qualified to teach capoeira while the rest were just a small community internet learning capoeira group. Capoeira in Malaysia started to grow when the group agreed to meet each other and shared the knowledge. For me this was the most enjoyable moment, I could see in everyone eyes’ their passion to learn capoeira. I was there during the community gathering, and I was amongst the seniors who taught them how to gingga. Later, the community became strong , we were able to afford to import a proper capoeira instructor to lead. Everyone was edger to get their 1st belt from the group.
In Malaysia, there are a number of strong groups, such as,
Capoeira Ache Brazil Malaysia – Kuantan
Capoeira Bantus Malaysia – Damansara Jaya, KL
Escola Brasileira de Capoeira Malaysia – TTDI, MMU – KL
Capoeira Senzala – Penang
I just hope that one day, we all can meet each other and share the same Malaysian spirit, regardless of any group, any belt, any nation. Capoeira is for everyone.
Majulah Sukan Untuk Negara.

This picture reminds me on one of the earliest shows i’ve performed. One of the most watched events that time! CAPOEIRA.. everything is Capoeira! Sleep, eat, & drink Capoeira! Ache Capoeira. Back then the spirit of Capoeira was unexplained and hopefully even greater nowadays in Malaysia. Long live Capoeira, and all capoeiristas in Malaysia. To Faiz, Aizad, Acio, and Piji, I miss our time in the roda. Hope to play again, some other time.
ya. tiada gambar seni dlm entry ini. semua strght fwd picture. lebih kurang mcm pengulas sukan ! haha
It’s awesome to see the spread of capoeira all over the world.
Our group initially started the same way, with a bunch of students that wanted to learn. They went to events and eventually got a contra-mestre from Brazil to teach.
The passion for capoeira is what keeps all of us going!
