After 9 hours of driving from KL, we finally arrived at Kuala Besut. To get to Perhentian Island we had to take a boat from Kuala Besut’s Jetty. The ride was Speedy and bumpy, for about 30-40 mins depending on how adventurous your boatman is. We stayed at Perhentian Island Resort.
The atmosphere and the natural beauty of the Perhentian islands immediately transported us to a different world. We were amazed by the most crystal clear water and whitest sand on the Island. Perhentian is perfect island for those who like the sun, the beach & bikini. What made Perhentian special was the superb underwater life in the surrounding marine park, making this a premium spot for scuba/snorkel addicts.
The Perhentian Islands (Pulau Perhentian in Malay) lie approximately 10 nautical miles (19 km) offshore the coast of northeastern Malaysia in the state of Terengganu, approximately 40 miles (64 km) south of the Thai border. Perhentian Island have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and world class diving with plenty of cheap accommodation.
The Perhentian Islands are two islands named Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Small Perhentian Island) and Pulau Perhentian Besar (Large Perhentian Island). The Malay name Perhentian is translated as “stop or station” and this is exactly what these two islands were for traders travelling between Malaysia and Bangkok in years gone by.
2nd day we went for a snorkeling trip to 3 locations. Underwater paradise in Perhentian Island with beautiful coral reefs beneath crystal clear water. We experienced the unbelievable clarity of the world’s most beautiful undersea. There were thousands of species of exotic reef creatures in every color of the rainbow.
On the 3rd day, we missed the breakfast as we are too tired snorkeling. As we walked to the Resort’s Restaurant. We saw the flying squirrels gliding from one tree to another. The Flying squirrels, scientifically known as Pteromyini or Petauristini, are a tribe of 43 species of squirrels. Its not just the squirrels, we also encounter Green Snake crossing our path. Watch out !
After 3 days and 2 night at Perhentian Island, I wish with all my heart that everyone in this world could go 1 day and experience this great part of the world. Perhentian Island is a nice place to explore. We will definitely coming back.
